Travel Tips While Taking a Ferry In Greece

Written by in , Comments Off on Travel Tips While Taking a Ferry In Greece

Ferry travel is common in Greece, but many people who are new to  Greece may find themselves hesitant to try it. The reality is that this is a safe and fun way to travel. It is also extremely affordable. This is how most Greeks travel to the islands, and using the ferry will give you a truly authentic experience. These tips will help you make the most of ferry travel in Greece:

Always Get There Early

In order to have the most comfortable experience possible on a Greek ferry, it really does help to get there early. The goal is to be one of the first ones on the ferry so you can find a comfortable area of the ferry to enjoy the experience! The seats with a view in particular get taken quickly and if you are traveling in a large group, it can be difficult to find seats in the same location if you wait too long to get on.

Bring Drinks and Snacks

Although most ferries have a snack bar or cafeteria, you don’t want to rely on them for your food and drinks and snacks. It is a good idea to bring your own drinks, such as bottles of water, as well as your snacks and meals, to enjoy on board. That way, you can relax and enjoy the experience of being on the ferry without relying on the services on board. There is no guarantee, for example, that the snack bar or cafeteria on board will have the type of food that you are looking for, or if they’ll even be open during your ride.

Check the Ferry Times

When traveling via ferry in Greece, it is important to check the time tables so that you can arrive on time. For the most part, ferries in the country do keep a schedule. However, ferries do often run late or the times can change. In order to prevent this from being frustrating, you should always try to find the most current schedule possible to follow. If anything unexpected happens, try not to let it upset you. Things often change here and the schedule isn’t always foolproof. As long as you understand this, you’ll have a much easier time navigating the system.

Keep All Your Essentials Close

In some cases, the ferry service may allow you to check your baggage. If this is the case, you’ll want to make sure that your essentials, such as medications, remain in your carry-on bags. There is a chance that you may need these items on board with you, and things like medications can be difficult or impossible to replace if something happens to them. You also wouldn’t want to be without your medications in case you need them on board!

Although ferry travel is a great way to travel in Greece, it isn’t always comfortable. These tips will help maximize your comfort and enjoyment while using the ferry system in Greece.
