When people decide to visit Athens, the beach may be far away from their expectations. Sure, they’re possibly planning to hit the beach once they move on from the city, but few realize that there are plenty of gorgeous beaches close to the city center. Varkiza is one of those beaches, and although you do have to travel a ways outside of the city itself, the trip is well worth it. Here’s more information on visiting this beach:
Getting to Varkiza Beach
Since Varkiza Beach is outside of Athens, you will need to find transportation outside of the city. If you decide to rent a car, getting yourself to the beach will be fairly easy. Just find a GPS or a map and follow the route until you get there. Since it is under 30 kilometers from the city, it is also easy to hire a taxi to take you there. You can also arrange for the same taxi driver to pick you up and take you back to the hotel after you’re finished. There are also some options for taking public transportation. If you decide you want to spend more time at this beach, consider leaving the city center and staying close to the beach in one of the area resorts. That way, you can enjoy the beach whenever you want!
Why Visit Varkiza Beach
There are several reasons why you might want to visit this beach. First of all, it isn’t as crowded as some of the other beaches that are outside of Athens. However, there are still plenty of people here and that means it still has a festive, holiday vibe. Because it isn’t as popular of a beach with tourists, this means that you’ll likely find more locals at this beach – but tourists do still flock here – especially those who want to avoid the crowds.
Varkiza Beach Has all the Facilities Visitors Need
Although this beach isn’t as crowded as some of the others, it is important to note that it does have all the facilities that a visitor needs to have a great time. These include volleyball courts, restrooms, a place to buy snacks, and a designated area for children to play. There are also sun beds and umbrellas to rent while you enjoy the sun. This means that you can easily spend the day here!
Plenty to Do After You’re Finished at the Beach
Once you’re done soaking up the sun, you may not want to go back to your hotel just yet. There’s plenty to do in the village of Varkiza since it is a fairly well developed place with plenty of resorts, bars, shops, and cafes. Consider walking the streets and find a place to enjoy a nice meal and a few drinks. Look in some of the shops for souvenirs and then make your way back to the Athens only after you’re done.
As you can see, there is plenty to do at the beach in Varkiza and also in the town after you’re finished lounging at the beach.
