Greek Style Aromatic Figs (Sika Xsera) Recipe Ingredients:

  • 3 cups sweet red wine, such as Mavrodaphne
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 18 fresh figs
  • 6 bay leaves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 teaspoon fresh, chopped orange zest

How to Make Aromatic Figs:

Place the wine and sugar into a saucepan and whisk together. Add the figs, bay leaves, cinnamon stick, and orange zest to the pan and let soak overnight.

Set the heat to medium-high and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for ten minutes. Remove the figs from the saucepan and let them rest. Continue to simmer the liquid until a thick syrup forms. Pour the syrup over the figs just before serving.
