This recipe features pork in tomato sauce with cabbage. All of these ingredients can be found throughout Greece and this dish is commonly prepared in the country and throughout the worldwide Greek diaspora.

Greek Style Cabbage and Pork (Lahano Me Kreas) Recipe Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 pounds boneless pork shoulder, cut into cubes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons Greek olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • 1 1/2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 head cabbage, cored, cut, and sliced thin

How to Prepare Greek Style Cabbage and Pork:

Rinse the pork under cold water and dry with paper towels. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Pour the olive oil into a large pot and heat over medium heat. Add the pork and sear each cube until golden brown all over. Remove from pan and add the onion. Saute for five minutes or until soft. Add the garlic and saute for another minute.

Stir in the wine and scrape the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon. Put the pork back in the pan and stir in the tomato sauce, oregano, water, and cabbage. Cover the pot and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Simmer on low after it bowls for one hour.
