Greece is a country that is filled with many wonders. The weather is idyllic, the people are welcoming, and there is so much to see and do that it can be hard to choose. No matter where you end up in Greece, it seems that you can’t go wrong! Whether you eat a fabulous meal, lounge on the beach, or visit one of the many historical sites, you won’t be disappointed.

However, there are some experiences that stand out more than others. Here’s a look at some of the top things to do while in Greece:

Visiting the Acropolis in Athens

When you think about Ancient Greece, the Athenian city-state with all of its history and culture comes immediately to mind. Athens is a fascinating city because it is one of those places that is completely modern, and yet it has serious ties to the past. The Acropolis in Athens is where much of the city’s past is congregated and visiting here is one of those experiences you won’t want to miss.

Enjoy the Volcanic History of Santorini

In a lot of ways, the island of Santorini is tied to its volcanic activity. Although the volcano hasn’t erupted for thousands of years, there is still modern-day evidence of its activity. The very way the island is shaped was determined by the volcano, as well as the sand on some of the beaches. While on this island, one of the most memorable things to do would be to visit the volcano. It isn’t considered extinct, just dormant, which means that you can still feel evidence of the volcano’s existence.

Hiking the Samaria Gorge

The Samaria Gorge, which is located on the Greek island of Crete, is the longest gorge in Europe. It also makes for a very pleasant hike! Typically, the hike begins at the top of the gorge and is completely downhill until you actually reach the gorge, which is relatively flat, but has areas where you need to scramble over some rocks. You empty into a village where there is a beach, some shops, a hotel, and opportunities to get something to eat. From there, you can take a ferry back to Chania. It’s a great outing, but it is also important to be in shape and to have enough water!

Experiencing the Nightlife on Mykonos

Mykonos is known for its nightlife, so if you are on the island, you won’t want to miss the chance to experience it! There are plenty of places throughout the island to find a good party, including right on the beach as you lounge. Many of these places are concentrated in the Little Venice area, but there are other places on the island that have a great scene. The nice thing is, you don’t need to party the whole time you are here, there are other things to do, as well.

Go Back in Time on Hydra

When you set foot on the island of Hydra, you will notice that there are no cars allowed. Most of the transportation is done by donkey. There are some exceptions, but for the most part, vehicles aren’t alive. This fives Hydra a charm that is unique to the rest of Greece because it is like stepping back in time. If you want to know what Greece was like 100 years ago, this is a great island to visit!

Lounge at a Great Beach

There is certainly no shortage of beaches to experience on Greece! While it’s true that you can’t go wrong with any of them, there are some that absolutely stand out. If you want to visit the beach while in Greece, you should consider visiting at least one of the best that the country has to offer, such as Super Paradise Beach on Mykonos or Balos Beach, which is on Crete.

While in Greece, you won’t want to miss the chance to have some of these experiences!
