Gerakas Beach in Zakynthos is protected by the National Marine Park of Zakynthos. The Caretta Caretta sea turtles lay their eggs at Gerakas Beach. At the beach you will find an information kiosk that will inform you of the regulations regarding the protection of the sea turtle.

The beach has plenty of free parking if you choose to drive. Around Gerakas Beach there are many options for food and drink. Umbrellas and sun beds are available at the beach for a rental fee.

Gerakas Beach is a large cove with shallow, warm water that is ideal for swimming. Families with children will feel safe swimming at Gerakas Beach. The sandy beach is also perfect for lounging in the sun. When you’re relaxing on the beach, you can admire the surrounding rock formations that are dotted around the seashore. These rock formations also provide protection and isolation.

Snorkeling opportunities are also available at Gerakas Beach. Thanks to the it being a protected zone, there are no floating vessels, including kayaks, allowed at Gerakas beach. This makes ideal conditions for snorkeling as the fish are relaxed and the sea life gardens undisturbed. The water level at Gerakas Beach doesn’t exceed 10 meters. It is the perfect area for families, even those with young children, to learn to snorkel. You can find experienced instructors who have the necessary equipment and can either pick you up or meet you at Gerakas Beach for a lesson and lots of fun. There is also a chance you will see the Caretta Caretta sea turtles.

Location of Gerakas Beach

This beach is located near Vasilikos, which is known for its tranquility and natural beauty. If you have time, you’ll want to visit the area. There are olive groves and stone-built traditional houses to explore and bars, restaurants, and shops to keep you happy.

You can get to the island of Zakynthos by plane or by ferry. Once there, you can follow the main road of the island past Argassi, Xirocastelo, and Vasilikos villages about 7 km you will see a statue of Roma and a sign that will lead you to the beach. Taxis are widely used in Zakynthos, so this is a convenient option.

For a relaxing day, Gerakas Beach should be at the top of your list when visiting the island of Zakynthos.
