The Greek island of Lemnos is a natural beauty. The island is home to low mountains, plains, gulfs, bays, and two large lakes. The coastline of Lemnos is especially beautiful. The beaches and their crystal waters make ideal spots to spend time. The island of Lemnos is ideal for anyone who enjoys nature and outdoor sports. Here are some of the outdoor sports you can expect to enjoy when in Lemnos.

Windsurfing

Lemnos, Greece is the ideal destination for anyone who enjoys windsurfing or kitesurfing. Keros Bay is is a paradise for these activities. The winds that blow at this beach make windsurfing and kitesurfing enjoyable. There are water sports centers in the area where you can rent equipment and take lessons if needed. The water at Keros Bay is flat and shallow, making it perfect for people of all ages who want to try their hand at windsurfing or kitesurfing. The shallow water extends for about 250 meters. On one end of the bay there is a wave beach. Gomati Beach is another place where you can enjoy kitesurfing.

Hiking

Lemnos is rich in hiking paths, so if you love to explore on foot, this is the outdoor sport for you. Hiking around the island will give you the opportunity to explore the wildlife and the different landscapes that make Lemnos beautiful. One hiking path you will enjoy begins at Katalakkos and takes you through the sand dunes of Lemnos that are known as Pahies Ammoudies. If you want to experience a breathtaking view, you will want to try the hike that leads from Therma Village to the Chapel is Prophet Elias. There is another hiking route that leads to the Waterfalls of Kaspakas. This route begins at Agios Ioannis Beach in Kaspakas Village. You will walk along a stream that will take you right to the waterfalls.

Bird Watching

Bird lovers will enjoy spending time on the island of Lemnos. The Wetland of Alyki is a coastal salt lagoon that is located on the eastern side of the island. This lake is spread over 6 square kilometers and is one of the most important ecosystems of Lemnos. During the summer, when the water evaporates, the lake is turned into a salt marsh and during the winter the water makes it appear as a lake. This wetland is a shelter for migratory birds. The Wetland of Alyki is where pink flamingos gather. This is a unique sight to see. The island of Lemnos is home to two other wetlands: Hortarolimni and Asprolimni.

Scuba Diving

If you’re looking for an underwater adventure, Lemnos and its clear waters provide a wonderful opportunity. You will see the lovely and unique marine life that calls the coast off of Lemnos their home. If you prefer snorkeling, there are opportunities for this activity around the island of Lemnos as well. Half-day snorkeling trips are available that will allow you to also experience Brothers Island and Pinnacle Head.
