Meganisi, Greece is a gorgeous little island that is located between the mainland and the island of Lefkada. Meganisi is rich in unspoiled beauty. The beaches are secluded and relaxing, the water is breathtaking and tranquil. The landscape of the island of Meganisi make it the ideal destination for enjoying outdoor sports. Here are a few outdoor sports that you can experience around Meganisi, Greece.

Go Hiking

The Greek island of Meganisi is ideal for hiking. There are a number of routes that will expose you to the beauty of the island. There is a route that goes from the village of Spartohori to Agios Ioannis. This hike takes about 30 minutes. When walking this route, you will want to take basic supplies such as water. The hike will begin at the asphalt road and arrive at a dirt path that will take you through abandoned olive groves. The vegetation will thicken and lead to a country road. It’s a good idea to complete this hike before the sun sets.

Another hiking route on the island of Meganisi begins at Vathy Harbor goes to Katormeri and ends at Atherinos Harbor. This is a longer hike that will take about 2 hours (round trip), but it is worth it if you’re interested in seeing little coves and bays where you can enjoy a swim. You will also see olive groves, the Chapel of Agia Paraskevi, beaches, and amazing views of the surrounding areas.

Go Kayaking

If you are visiting Meganisi with your family, kayaking is a wonderful outdoor sport to experience together. You can take a guided tour around the island that is designed especially for families. There is double-seat kayaks available. The tour begins at Roka Beach, near Spilia. From there you will paddle along the coast taking in the coves along the way.

During this guided kayak tour, you will stop at a lovely beach for swimming and snorkeling. The sea around the island of Meganisi is rich in sea treasures to explore. The 5 mile guided tour is 5 miles long and takes about 4 hours. You can also rent equipment for kayaking at centres in Meganisi, if you prefer to explore on your own.

Go Sailing

For those who enjoy sailing, Meganisi is the ideal destination for enjoying this outdoor sport. Popular anchorages around Meganisi are found along the northeast coast of the island, around the corner from the harbor of Vathi. These anchorages include Ormos Kapali, Ormos Abelike, and Port Atheni. Between these locations are 20 coves where it’s possible for yachts to moor. Sailing is a wonderful way to see the surrounding landscape, including the nearby island of Lefkada. If you are not a sailor, but want to experience sailing, there are centers around the island that offer sailing tours.

The beautiful island of Meganisi might be small, but it’s the perfect destination for nature and outdoor sports lovers.
