Survive the Greek Dating Scene By Being Yourself

159380330Are you trying to navigate the Greek dating scene? If so, you will find that everyone has advice for you. People try to fix you up, tell you how to act, and give you articles and books to read about dating. Everyone has an opinion on how to date but most leave out one crucial thing. No matter what you do, remember to be yourself.

What does this mean, exactly? The phrase “be yourself” is somewhat vague. However, if you have a strong sense of self and already know who you are as a person, all you need to do is apply this to the dating scene. These tips will help you get started.

Don’t Fake It
The easiest way to “be yourself” is to not pretend to be something you aren’t. If you’re not a sports fan, don’t tell them you are. If you aren’t a vegetarian don’t tell them because you think that’s what she wants to hear.

The thing is, once you start dating and eventually enter a relationship with someone, they will eventually find out if you had lied to them about even small things because the lie will feel like a betrayal.

Expose Your Quirks
Someone who really loves you will celebrate your quirks and think they are endearing. So, why hide who you really are? You want someone who will think it’s adorable when you do something clumsy or organize your dinner plate a certain way, not someone who will yell at you for being yourself.

Expose your quirks early on and eliminate the people who make you feel like you need to change who you are. However, if you want to change certain things about yourself (such as being chronically late) there is nothing wrong with that. The change needs to come from within, though, and not from outside pressure by the person you are dating.

Forget the Dating Rules
How many dating rules have you tried to adhere to? There are so many, it can be confusing. Don’t call him first, let him call you. Wait until she makes eye contact before you approach her. Wait 24 hours after the first date before you call her to tell her you had a good time. It’s all ridiculous.

The point is that everyone is different. People have unique approaches to every day situations. Ignore the so-called “dating rules” and just do what comes naturally. If someone doesn’t respond to how you are as a person, it’s best to let him or her go.

As you can see, being yourself while dating is a matter of acting naturally around someone you like. For the most part, we know when we are being fake or when we are being real with ourselves. All we need to do is trust our instincts and not ignore them. Not only that, but also this shows that we are comfortable with ourselves. When this happens we attract people in our lives that are meant to be there.
