When it comes to the island of Corfu, you can’t go wrong by visiting one of its beaches! Agios Gordios Beach, which is located on the western side of the island, has quickly become a popular place to vacation for everyone from couples to families. Whether you want to relax in the beautiful sun or go for a swim in the gentle, warm waters, you will find that this beach will offer you a pleasant escape. This beach also has plenty of things to do nearby, including places to stay. Here’s a look at what you can do while here:

Activities at Agios Gordios Beach

The beach, of course, is the main attraction for Agios Gordios. The Blue Flag-winning beach has sunbeds and umbrellas for hire and plenty of water sports to indulge in from banana boats and peddle boats to motor boats. Motor boat tours are popular during the high season and are a great way to see the area. The beach is especially attractive to photographers. The island’s iconic Ortholithi, a huge rock, emerges from the sea in the distance. Since the village faces to the west, you will see some unforgettable sunsets.

Families with children will want to visit the elaborate water park a twenty minute drive away. Aqualand Water Park has an impressive pool complex, giant Jacuzzi, water slides, bouncy castles, playground, and arcade.

Nearby Villages to Agios Gordios Beach

You will definitely want to visit the old interesting villages around Agios Gordios, especially if you are from abroad. The small village of Pagi is nestled in a wooded valley about 2km from the sea. The original villagers built it here for protection from pirates and the water. It has been the set of a James Bond movie.

The charming old village of Afionas rises over the Agios Georgios Bay at the south end. To the north you will have a panoramic view of the Ionian Sea with the small islands of Gineka, Kravia, and Sikia visible in the distance. A historic church sits in the village centre and the town square leads to alleyways for exploring.

What to Eat and Drink at Agios Gordios

Plenty of bars and restaurants are near the beach in Agios Gordios. You can walk right off the beach and find award-winning food and drink served in a relaxed atmosphere. Try some traditional cuisine such as Soforito which is veal cooked in a wine sauce and flavor-fully seasoned with white pepper.

Other local dishes to try include Pastitsada and Avgolmono prepared with either veal or chicken. These are cooked with fresh local tomatoes, onions, wine, cinnamon, and other spices. In addition to these dishes and of course the traditional Greek dish stuffed squid, many of the tavernas serve international dishes.

Clubs and discos offer plenty of entertainment and drink during the high season in Agios Gordios. You must try some ouzo at least once.

Agios Gordios combines old island charm and tradition with the area’s geographical beauty to provide a perfect holiday getaway for everyone.
