Kefalonia is one of those islands that people love to visit. On the one hand, there are enough busy tourist resorts to satisfy even the pickiest of beach goers. However, those who don’t love the busy tourist areas will also find that Kefalonia has something for them, as well. The island is large enough for people to get lost in. No matter what kind of vacation you choose, chances are pretty good that you’ll most certainly want to visit the beach! Here are some of the best beaches to visit if you’re staying in the village of Argostoli:
Makris and Platis Gialos Beaches
Although there aren’t really any beaches in Argostoli that are an easy walking distance, Makris and Platis Gialos Beaches come pretty close! They are both around 3 kilometers from Argostoli, and since the two beaches are near each other, you can access both on the same day. If you don’t mind walking 3 kilometers each way, you can certainly walk. However, you can also take a taxi or ride public transportation to these beaches. If you know that you want to spend a lot of your time at the beach, you also may want to consider renting your own car. There are also services, amenities, and even tavernas in the area of these beaches.
Xi Beach
Xi Beach is one of the most unique beaches in the Argostoli area since it has red sand. The beach is gorgeous and there are also some services nearby. The red sand makes for some great photo opportunities and the unique claylike sand makes lounging on it especially enjoyable. If you know you love this beach, you may want to consider staying at a hotel right near it rather than on Argostoli.
Lassi Beach
Lassi Beach is one of those areas that has been built up by tourism. As a result, there are plenty of things to do here! Not only that, but it is also close to Argostoli and is only 2 kilometers away from the village. This beach has sand, chairs to rent, and is especially warm and inviting. Those who want to avoid the busy resorts can stay closer to Argostoli and then visit the beach by walking, taking a taxi, or a bus. Lassi is also known for its beauty and it is a nice spot for lounging and swimming. You’ll also want to take plenty of pictures!
Myrtos Beach
Myrtos Beach is known for being one of the best places on the island for swimming. In fact, those who love this beach say that it is the best beach they’ve encountered in all of Greece! The waters are calm and warm whether you prefer swimming or lounging in the sun on a chair, this beach will become one of your favorites, as well. Don’t miss the rocks on this beach, either. They’re unique because they are completely white.
