Skyros is one of those tucked away islands that offers visitors the chance to escape. Although it is considered to be the largest of the Sporades island group, it is sparsely populated while also being incredibly gorgeous. This means that guests can use the island to find their own sense of
peace. However, just because it’s much quieter than some of the busier islands in Greece, that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to do! In particular, the beaches are a highlight. Here’s a list of some of the best beaches to visit while here:
Molos Beach
Molos is considered to be one of the best beaches on the island. As a result of that, this beach is also popular and draws healthy crowds, especially during peak tourist season. This beach is also organized, which means that there are chairs and umbrellas to rent, food options, and facilities for changing and using the bathroom. Overall, if you want a beach that shows signs of life but that is also gorgeous, this is the place to be!
Atsitsa Beach
Although Altsitsa Beach doesn’t have its own facilities, there are a few tavernas that are extremely close. This means that you can easily take a break from enjoying the beautiful beach to get some refreshment at the taverna. Many people spend a few hours soaking up the sun before packing up and heading to the taverna for a meal. One thing that makes this beach worth visiting is that it has some of the best scenery on the island. Since there are no facilities, however, you will need to pack everything that you need for the day.
Pefkos Beach
One thing that sets this beach apart from the others is the lush strip of greenery that surrounds it. As a result of that, this beach feels isolated and peaceful. However, since it is about 10 kilometers away from the town of Chora, this means that there is usually a healthy amount of people here, especially during peak tourist season. The trees and other greenery also seems to cool the beach down a little bit. Beachgoers can head for the shade in order to take a break from the sun.
Aspous Beach
If you’re looking for a pretty beach that is only 5 kilometers from Skyros Town, Aspous Beach is the place to be! Here, you will have the opportunity to lounge in the sun and enjoy the warm waters. Since it is convenient to one of the main towns on the island, it is definitely an easy day trip. You can either drive a rental car to the site or take a taxi from the main town. The downside is that the beach itself doesn’t have facilities. However, there is a nearby taverna, so you can always take a break from the beach to get something to eat.
Since Skyros isn’t a busy island, not many of the beaches have their own facilities. However, they are all worth visiting for different reasons. Many of the beaches do have nearby tavernas and restaurants, which can help make the beach day more enjoyable.
