Top Activities to Do on Rhodes

Written by in , Comments Off on Top Activities to Do on Rhodes

Rhodes is one of the most unique of all the Greek islands. On the one hand, it has all the typical activities of any of the Greek islands. While here, you can enjoy the delicious Greek cuisine, shop in some of the best island shops, enjoy the nightlife, and sit at one of the island’s top beaches. This island does have a charm all its own, though. There is a rich history here, which gives the island an atmosphere that you can’t find in other places. It is also a fairly large island. In fact, it is the largest island on the Dodekanese island group. Here are some activities you won’t want to miss while here:

Village of Lindos

For many, visiting the Village of Lindos is the highlight of the trip. Many describe the place as “magical” because it is one of those villages that looks as if an artist dreamed it up. Pleasantly surprised, visitors realize that the photographs were real. Favorite parts of the village include the stunning views of the sea as well as the beaches. Be sure to leave plenty of time to take photographs while here. You’ll want to show people that the picture perfect quality of the village is real, not imagined.

Saint Paul’s Bay

If it’s excellent scenery that you’re after, though, you won’t want to miss Saint Paul’s Bay. The bay is surrounded by two small beaches, each of which afford stunning views. One of the best photo opportunities on Rhodes is located here. Make sure you include Saint Paul’s Church in your shots if you’re able. This is also a great place to go snorkeling and observe the way the water looks from a different vantage point.

Medieval City

One of the things that Rhodes is most known for is its rich Medieval history. The Knights of the Order of Saint John were based here until they began operating out of Malta. Much of their presence still remains in the Old Town, or Medieval City. Whether you take a tour of the area or walk around by yourself, it becomes clear that this is an island that has its share of secrets.

Palace of the Grand Master of Knights

Perhaps one of the most intriguing remnants from the Knights of the Order of Saint John is the Palace of the Grand Master of Knights. A large fortress, this looks a little bit out of place on a Greek island. Perhaps it would be better suited to England or another European city with Medieval roots? Nevertheless, it is here on Rhodes, and it serves as a reminder as to just how much history the island really has.

Acropolis of Lindos

Sure, the island does have ties to Medieval history. However, people have lived here for much longer than that! Nowhere is this more obvious than at the Acropolis of Lindos. Not only is the Acropolis itself beautiful, but it also has a stunning view!

While on Rhodes, you won’t want to miss visiting these essential places!
