In 1980, the Open Air Cinema was passed to the Maniaki family who take care of it and have turned it into a popular spot for people to watch movies outdoors. The Maniaki family is devoted to respecting the history and tradition of the Open Air Cinema. They pour their love and attention into keeping it at its best.
The family takes equal care and attention to choosing the movies they will show at the Open Air Cinema. During the winter months, they watch movies and decide what will be shown during the coming months. Many films shown are classics that are loved year after year. Newer movies are also shown at the Open Air Cinema.

The Open Air Cinema in Athens does not take reservations. They remain traditional and there is enough seating, all of which is good for viewing the film, that reservations are not needed. You can only buy tickets once you arrive at the Open Air Cinema. Films to be shown at the cinema are posted at least 10 days in advance, so you can plan your trip to the cinema according to what you want to see.

From the Akropolis station it is a 10 minute walk to the Open Air Cinema. You can also bike to the cinema if you wish. The staff will show you where you can put your bike while you watch the movie.
