Enjoy Peratata Village on Kefalonia Island

Written by in , Comments Off on Enjoy Peratata Village on Kefalonia Island

If you’re looking for a great place to meander, Kefalonia, one of the larger islands in Greece, is a great place to do that. Since the island is fairly big, you can easily find places that will make you feel like you can truly escape and unplug. The island is also physically beautiful and whether you spend time at the beach or wandering through the interior, the island won’t disappoint.

The villages on this island are also a particular highlight. Sure, you can spend your time at one of the larger towns, such as Argostoli, but villages such as Peratata also have a charm that’s worth exploring. Here’s more information:

Getting to Peratata Village

Before you can actually spend time in the village, you need to first make your way to the island of Kefalonia. To do so, you can take either a ferry or an airplane. Since the island is large and is also a popular destination, you have more than one option. For example, smaller islands in Greece may not have an airport. Once you make your way to the island and find your hotel, it is time to plane the rest of your trip. Many people opt to stay in Argostoli or in the surrounding area because there is plenty to do here and it is a great place to base your stay. If you do stay near Argostoli, you’ll have an easy time making it to Peratata village since it is only about 8 kilometers from the bigger town. It is roughly to the southeast of Argostoli. This means you can easily take a bus, taxi, or easily drive your rental car there.

What to Do in Peratata Village

Although it is certainly fun to explore larger towns and villages, the smaller ones, like Peratata, have a certain charm that also make them worth a visit. One thing that really sets this place apart is how picturesque it is. Filled with natural beauty, you can easily come here for some rest and relaxation. The native population is pretty small, too, which also helps makes it relaxing. There are only about 500 people living here year round. Here is a look at what you can do while here:

  • Walk the Streets. This is an excellent village of meandering. You can easily weave your way through the streets, taking pictures as you go. There are also shops and plenty of places to eat here so you can easily spend the day at the village.
  • Visit the Castle of Saint George. The castle itself is slightly in ruins but still has a stunning appearance despite that.
  • Go to the Beach. There are also several area beaches that are worth visiting while spending time at this age.

Located on the slopes of a mountain, this village is charming and incredibly scenic. While here, you won’t want to miss the chance to take plenty of pictures so don’t forget your camera! Since it is near Argostoli, this village makes an easy day trip.
