Written by in , Comments Off on What to Do on Your Weekend in Santorini

Santorini is a beautiful and unique island and people all over the world flock here each year. They come to Santorini so they can enjoy its beauty, experience the Greek culture, soak up the sun, and see the sites. One of the most sought-after destinations in Greece, Santorini is home to charming towns and villages, historical villas and natural landscapes that make any journey to the location a breathtaking experience. What if you only have a weekend? Here’s a guide that will help you plan your trip:

Getting to Santorini

If you’ve never even heard of Santorini, then the chances are high that you do not even know how to get there. The process isn’t actually that difficult. There are airlines in places like Paris, London, Italy, and even the United States that will fly you directly to Santorini. You can also fly to Athens and then take a flight to Santorini. You also have the option of taking a ferry from Piraeus and other ports throughout Greece and the surrounding area.

Where to Stay

Are you wondering where you should stay while on Santorini? Consider staying in Fira, the largest town on the island and a central hub of activity. If the noise and bustle of Fira isn’t for you, then you might want to try staying in Oia, a Santorini village well known for its impressive sunsets, spectacular views of Santorini’s volcanos and a quiet lifestyle. Oia has  museums, cafes and churches that are within walking distance.

What to Do in Santorini

Once you finally settle and unpack, you will want to sample all the fun activities Santorini has to offer; and there are quite a few to choose from, with the most prominent including:

Lounge on the Beach

You can’t visit a destination like Santorini without trying your hand at one or two of its beaches. Many a tourist has showered the beach of Armenis with praise but there are quite a few to choose from. You can enjoy the sand and the water, or you can participate in the water activities and diving opportunities. It all depends on your preferences.

Visit the Volcano

If the beaches are a little too tame for your liking, consider giving the volcanoes of Nea and Palia Kameni a chance. This is often the benefit of settling down in Oia or even Fira. Both locations offer great views of these beauties. Though, no one will stop you from trying to get a closer look.

Enjoy the Sunset

Not everyone comes to Santorini for the adventure and the exploration. If all you want is a place within which to relax, Santorini’s sunsets will blow you away. Places like Akrotiri provide the perfect vantage point from which to watch the sun as it sets Santorini’s gorgeous landscapes on fire.

Go to the Movies

There are some outdoor cinemas on Santorini that are worth experiencing. The weather on this island is so gorgeous, especially during peak season, that enjoying a movie outdoors should be at the top of your list.

Enjoy Outdoor Activities

Santorini’s water-based activities are not merely limited to swimming at the beach or going scuba diving. Those more adventurous souls will love the windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing opportunities on offer.

Santorini has so much to offer to both longterm and short term guests, not just the breathtaking coastline or even the luxury hotels but the local culture, the historical architecture and the exciting landscapes.
