Pasta dishes are popular throughout Greece. Since capers are plentiful in the country, versions of this dish can be found throughout.

Greek Style Pasta With Capers (Makarona me Kapari) Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup Greek olive oil
  • 2 shallots, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 recipe Greek tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried Greek oregano
  • 1 pound pasta, such as penne or ziti (choose gluten-free macaroni if following a gluten-free diet)
  • 2 tablespoons capers
  • 2/3 cup grated cheese, such as myzithra, Romano, or Parmesan
  • 2 tablespoons chopped, fresh parsley

How to Prepare Pasta With Capers:

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet that has been set to medium heat. Add the shallots and saute until soft. This should take about 3 minutes.. Add the garlic and saute for about a minute. Add the tomato sauce and oregano and reduce the heat to low and cover the skillet

Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the pasta according to the package instructions.
While the pasta is cooking, continue simmering the sauce. Once the pasta cooks to al dente, remove the cover of the skillet and toss in the pasta. Toss in the capers and cheese and then garnish with the parsley and chives just before serving.
