The island of Iraklia is located between Ios and Naxos. Iraklia has just a few permanent residences and is a calm and peaceful place to visit. The landscape of the Island is includes beautiful flora, scenic bays, rocky coasts, and beaches. Iraklia, Greece consists of only two villages: Agios Georgios and Panagia.

The beaches of Iraklia are varied. There are rocky beaches and sandy beaches. Though they aren’t organized, these beaches offer natural beauty and guaranteed relaxation.

Livadi Beach

Located on the northeastern side of Iraklia Island is Livadi Beach. Livadi beach is an unorganized sandy beach. The beach is long and safe for relaxing and swimming. The winds at this beach can be strong during the afternoons, but if that doesn’t bother you, Livadi Beach is the perfect place to spend the day. From the beach you can walk to Agios Georgios, which is the port of the island of Iraklia.

If you visit Agios Georgios, you will find tourist amenities that include taverns and rooms to rent. There is also the ruins of a medieval castle nearby. The castle can be reached via a path. Livadi Beach faces the neighboring island of Schinoussa, which is a lovely view to have while relaxing on the beach. If you continue to Panagia Village, you can see the church located there.

Port Beach

Located at the northern side of the island of Iraklia is Port Beach. This beach is unorganized with a sandy shore and clean, warm water. Around the port of Iraklia are small, sandy coves that make perfect swimming spots. Some areas of the shore can be rocky, so you’ll want to have appropriate footwear. There are taverns in the area as well as rooms to rent.

Alimia Beach

If you are a diver, you will want to visit the Bay of Alimia, on the southwestern coast of Iraklia. The bay hosts two beaches that are accessible only by boat. What makes this beach unique and a popular place for divers is the wreckage of a sunken World War II aircraft that is found about 9 meters down. The beach is sandy and the waters are clean and clear. There is a view of the cliffs that adds to the beauty of the area. In addition to diving, you can also snorkel at Alimia Beach and there is a cave that you can walk to. There are no amenities, so you’ll want to bring enough food, water, and supplies for your visit.

Agios Georgios Beach

The sandy and secluded beach of Agios Georgios can be found on the northern side of Iraklia Island. It is within walking distance of the port of Iraklia where you will find rooms to rent and taverns to enjoy a meal and drink at. The beach features some trees and benches that make an ideal spot for relaxing in the shade should it get too hot and sunny.

Irakia is the perfect get-away for those who want to relax on the beach.
