Rhodes is one of the most unique of all the Greek islands. It has a rich history, and this is reflected in its many buildings and historical landmarks. On top of that, there are beaches, museums, and plenty of other sites to see that will keep anyone busy. It is an especially great island for families. Besides visit the sites and eat delicious traditional food, here are some things that you can do with your family whole on Rhodes:

Palace of the Grand Master

The Palace of the Grand Master can be found in the old town of Rhodes. Built in the 14th century, it was originally home to the governor and was an administrative center. Constructed with 158 rooms, only 24 are currently open to visitors. Enjoy antique furniture of the 16th and 17th centuries, impressive frescoes by renowned artists, and gorgeous floors paved with a mosaic of ancient Roman and Byzantine art. In the interior yard,you’ll be greeted by statues of the Greek and Roman period. Finally, take pleasure in exhibitions and performances that frequent the palace. 

Aquarium

The Aquarium of Rhodes is located in the Hydrobiological Station in the city of Rhodes. Preserving creatures of the Mediterranean Sea, it houses 13 large tanks and 15 small ones. The aquarium often hospitalizes sea turtles and seals from nearby waters. Enjoy watching sea turtles, marine mammals, sharks and other fish, and crabs as you make your way through the circular structure. You can also examine embalmed sea creatures, such as dolphins, sea turtles, and sharks that are on display in the museum. 

Valley of the Butterflies

Visit this lush valley located on the western side of Rhodes Island for fascinating fun and adventure. The reserve gets its name because the Jersey Tiger butterfly, or Euplagia quadripunctaria, inundates this green valley in spring and autumn. Walk cool, narrow paths, and enjoy the many waterfalls and wooden bridges as you keep an eye out for these amazing creatures. Be sure to take your camera to document this one-of-a-kind excursion, and enjoy lunch immersed in the beauty of nature. 

Water Park

Faliraki Water Park in Rhodes is the largest water park in Europe and is open from May to October. It features activities and rides such as kamikaze slides, a pirate ship, wave pools, lazy rivers, black holes and other ventures. Feel confident knowing that experienced lifeguards and medical technicians are on duty. There are snack bars, showers, and a souvenir shop for your convenience. 

Toy Museum

The Rhodes Toy Museum, located just outside the village of Archipoli, was built in a beautiful natural environment and is run exclusively by solar power. In the main exhibit hall, you will find toys made in Greece between 1930 through about 1990. The basement houses a game room with coin-operated arcade games dating from the 1960’s through the 1990’s which may be enjoyed by visitors. In addition, there is an active play area inside the museum as well as a playground outside. Admire the amazing views from the terrace, and feel free to browse the museum gift shop. 

Rhodes is a great place for families to visit. You can’t go wrong with any of these activities!
