Pelion Peninsula, Greece is a mountain that forms a peninsula between the Aegean Sea and the Pagasetic Gulf. Thanks to its high elevation, Pelion receives enough snow to have skiing facilities. The area is also abundant in trees and water sources such as springs, gorges, and streams.  The variety of things to do around Pelion, makes it the perfect place for families. Kids will get as much enjoyment out of a trip to Pelion as adults do.

Here are a few things you can do as a family in Pelion Peninsula, Greece:

Ride the Little Pelion Train

The Little Pelion Train (also known as “Smudgy”) is a steam train that goes from Volos to Melies, covering a distance of 28 km. This train ride is a must-do with the family. It makes stops at the different villages as well as nature spots and historical spots. These stops make the perfect locations for family photos. The train also travels through tunnels and over bridges, which everyone, especially the kids, will enjoy. The landscape you will see during the ride is impressive. Riding the Little Pelion Train definitely a fun activity that will keep everyone happy and entertained.

Go skiing

If you’re a fan of snow and snow sports, you’ll want to visit the ski resort. Whether you are a family of skiers or you want to try to learn together, heading to the slopes when you’re visiting Pelion is something you should consider. There are varying levels of ski slopes, so there’s something for everyone. If snowboarding is more your style, they offer that as well. Children as young as three years old can learn with trained instructors. And of course, who doesn’t want to partake in a friendly snowball fight or build a snowman? If you’ve never skied while enjoying a view of the sea, this is your chance!

Hit the Beach

If you’re visiting Pelion during the warm months, you won’t want to miss out on visiting at least one of the beaches the area has to offer. Agios Ioannis is a beach that is surrounded by nature. The water is beautiful and the tall trees around the beach provide natural shade. Horefto Beach is perfect for families as there are tourist facilities around as well as restaurants. Umbrellas and sun beds are also available. Local families enjoy Xinovrisi Beach, so yours likely will too. The unique feature of this beach is the rock formation that comes out of the sea. If you’re an adventurous family, you might enjoy participating in water sports together.

Pelion Peninsula, Greece is the perfect destination if you’re traveling with a family. There are activities to suit any activity or relaxation level you desire. There’s no better way to expose kids to a new culture than through activities that get them involved and having fun. This is easy to do in Pelion Peninsula where you have activities by the sea and the mountains, not to mention a lot of good food.
